ANTI-MICROBIAL ARESTIN THERAPY
Arestin , utilized as part of the soft tissue management program at our office, is a subgingival controlled-release product. The anti-microbial agent is deposited into the deep pockets caused by gum disease, where its anti-microbial activity is released over 7 day period to reduce the number of periodontal pathogens found in the diseased pocket.
Used in conjunction with ultrasonic scaling aids in reducing pocket depth and gum bleeding upon probing, thereby improving overall gum health of the patient.
UNDERSTANDING PERIOSTAT (Doxycycline hycalate 20mg)
High levels of bacteria initiate the release of tissue-destroying enzymes, resulting in deeper pockets and continued bone loss. Recent research has shown that periodontitis is best treated with a two-pronged approach. Periostat works by suppressing the action of these destructive enzymes, while other therapies (root planing and scaling, periodontal maintenance) primarily address bacterial removal. The length of therapy can be for a period of 3 to 9 months.
Periostat should be taken twice daily, one capsule in the morning and one capsule in the evening, about one-hour before meals. Anyone who has an allergy to tetracycline, as well as infants and children under 8 years old, and pregnant or nursing mother should not take Periostat.
